Colors, Culture, and Chilly

This past week we spent four days in Oaxaca City.  We haven't been back to the city in five months, partly because we were not looking forward to the 6 hour 150 mile drive on extremely winding roads.  However, it was time to return.  We met members of our district at the temple, a trip they make every 6-8 weeks.  They go by bus which takes 9 hours overnight because buses and large trucks have to take a longer route.  They could never handle the curves and narrow road over the mountain.  We had our car serviced (oil change, new brakes, etc.) while in Oaxaca as well.  And since we were going to be in Oaxaca anyway, Hermana Madsen asked if we could stay through Sunday so I could play the piano for a special missionary program that night.  We did the same program in Huatulco the week before.  We met lots of missionaries, including sister missionaries which we don't have in Huatulco, and were able to see some of the elders who had previously served in our zone.

We really enjoyed our visit to Oaxaca City this time.  The weather and temperatures were so pleasant.  I actually used a sweater one evening and a blanket in the hotel room.  It felt good to be a little chilly.  We had time to visit the plaza in the center of town which is where everything happens, and to go to the market.  I know of nothing more colorful than a Latin market.  It's a beautiful site.
